How to Properly Care for Your Smile-Cleaning Toothbrush

Posted .

Your toothbrush is an essential tool that will help you keep your smile in tip-top shape, which is why our DeMercy Dental team strongly recommends that you take great care of your toothbrush. If you take care of your smile-cleaning tool, your teeth and gums will stay healthy and strong, giving you the successful oral health you deserve. In order to take care of your toothbrush, Dr. Jeff DeMercy recommends doing the following things:

Rinse your toothbrush: Rinse your toothbrush with tap water after each use. Rinsing the tool will wash away the lingering toothpaste, saliva, and bacteria.

Let your toothbrush dry: After you’ve rinsed your toothbrush, make sure you store it in an upright position and let it air dry. Please make sure it is completely dry before you use it again. Drying your toothbrush will keep the bacteria and germs away from your toothbrush bristles.

Take care of your toothbrush while traveling: When you travel, do your best to keep your toothbrush in a plastic toothbrush container. That way your brush won’t get squished or flattened. However, please do not place the toothbrush in the container right after you use it. It’s vital to let your toothbrush dry first.
